PROVENCE / BEAUX VILLAGES TOUR 2008

Dates: October 4th - 11th 2008 - 8 days/8 nights

An 8-day autumn tour to Provence in the south of France incorporating visits to 20 of the most beautiful villages in France as well as to the Gorges du Verdon, France's Grand Canyon. Our tour starts with an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St. Malo. We then travel on scenic backroads through rural France with overnight stops in the Loire Valley, the Dordogne and the Gorges du Tarn, to Provence, a beautful region made famous by Peter Mayle and many others, where we spend the next 5 nights exploring this beautiful region. On our final day we travel east through more scenic gorges passing Grasse to the stunning perched village of Gourdon, our lunch stop and another beau village. In the afternoon our spectacular route takes us across the mountains and through the Gorges du Loup to St. Paul-de-Vence one of the most famous and tourist-thronged medieval hill villages in Provence. After an afternoon coffee stop we drop down to the coast just west of Nice and then drive along the Promenade-des-Anglais through Nice Port to nearby Villefranche-sur Mer where our hotel overlooks the scenic bay. Here we spend the last night of our tour.
